Malaysia Day Advertisement - NST (Friday, 16 September)

This ads is from Sapura Group which wishing Happy Malaysia Days to all citizen in Malaysia. The Sapura Group is a 100% Malaysian-owned technology-based organization. This company establish in 1975, beginning as a telecommunications infrastructure & service provider. The Group has expanded and diversified its businesses across four major business areas, which are Oil and Gas; Secured Technologies; Industrial and Automotive Manufacturing and Knowledge and Education.

For my opinion, this ad is not attractive and has lots of white space. For newspaper ads should have focus point which can attract readers. However, the tagline of this ad can be focus point because in word ‘MALAYSIANS’ shows lots of pictures that relate with the company and Malaysia Day. However the picture in word MALAYSIANS is too small and the readers can’t see clearly what is about. For people or readers who know the background of this company will understand what the meaning of that pictures.

This ad only focuses about Malaysia Day because in the body copy it’s just mention about 1Malaysia’s goal. The body copy should relate with the company so that the readers also can get the information about Sapura’s company. There are lots of thing that can be said in the body copy such as what the company achievement that relate with Malaysia Day. Besides that, in this ad have double sentences which is “We are Proudly Malaysians”. For me it is not good because it is like wasting the space and maybe will make the readers boring. As I know, the sentences “We are Proudly Malaysians” is the tagline of this ad, so it can’t use below the body copy.

My suggestions for this ad are decrease the white space and give lots of information on 1Malaysia or Malaysia Day that we celebrate on 16 September every year. However, the advertiser also can give a little bit information of the company. That way can promote their product or service to the readers and will make the company well known.

'Doing business without advertising is like winking at a girl in the dark. You know what you are doing, but nobody else does.'

Advertising is a medium to deliver massage or information about news product or service from advertiser to the public and customer. Besides that, advertising is also known as medium to promote and introduce the buyers of new brand or new product of goods and services.  Advertising can be define as a paid form of non – professional but encouraging, complimenting and positively favorable  presentation of goods and services to a group of people by an identified sponsor.  It does not include free samples of the products but it is about sales promotion.

In a successful business, advertising play an essential and important role that helps in increasing your sells. The first and key factor of advertising is that it will draw an audience's attention to a product or service offered by a company. Potential customers are made aware of the product can benefit them and will give them a reason to invest in it. When general public be conscious to the products, services and goods under the brands and pursuit people towards brands and make them buying better brands. Advertising can be used to create brand awareness in general public and to make business more popular within the circle of potential buyers. Advertising, in a straight line, increases profit of the companies by escalating its revenue. The expenditure made on advertisement can turn as good boost in earnings.

Advertising gives companies and businesses the opportunity to build up a brand and an identity. A recent example of this having great success is with the Apple brand. The distinct adverts in both TV and print form are instantly recognizable as the company's own and give it an identity as a clean, modern and reputable brand. Advertisements need to relate to current trends and sell both a product individually as well as the company as a whole. If an advertisement succeeds at both it can help draw an audience to the product or service and build a relationship between the consumer and company. Establishing this connection should lead to a boost in sales for the business.
